Join us for a special afternoon of local stories and river memories at the historic Rio Theater to celebrate 40 years of the Russian River Historical Society. Local stories and archival footage on the big screen, as well as drinks, food, and a chance to order copies of iconic historic photos from the archive.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Russian River Historical Society which began in July of 1983 as the Monte Rio Area Historical Society. Since then, the Society has hosted many events that celebrate the history of the lower Russian River from Hilton to Jenner. These events – talks, tours, picnics and various fundraising events have all focused on celebrating the rich and variety history of our community. In September of 1983 the society started an archive to collect, catalog and display artifacts, photos, posters, newspapers, costumes, and all other types of memorabilia. Today the collection includes over 4300 items that have been catalogued in PastPerfect – a software program that enables researchers to learn about each item.
Please join us to celebrate this milestone anniversary at the Rio Theater where we will display material from the archive and show vintage images from years past. Costumes are encouraged – dress up as one of the area’s historic characters. We will have music, wine and beer and concessions from the theater.
After the show, join us on an optional walking tour of historic Monte Rio that will end at Boho Manor and have a meal with others. Come celebrate with us!
